The Hammers forward was responding to a message from a Spurs fan following the sides' 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane last weekend
Cole went down injured during the 2-2 draw, with the Hammers players opting to play on rather than kick the ball out of play so he could be treated.
A Spurs fan sent the tweet: “Hi @CarltonCole1 when your own team-mates don’t kick the ball out when you’re lying injured for 2 mins, you think it’s time to call it a day?”
Cole responded by telling the supporter to 'F off' and called him a 'c***'.
The tweet was swiftly deleted but the FA have requested an explanation for his actions.
